Without surgery, appendicitis In Children Can Be Cured by Antibiotics

appendicitisWithout surgery, appendicitis In Children Can Be Cured by Antibiotics. Children suddenly complained of pain in the right lower abdomen? Be careful, it could be a symptom of appendicitis. Usually if it is severe inflammation of the appendix alias already infected by the bacteria, the surgical removal of the appendix was performed.

In addition to eliminating the source of pain, bowel surgery or appendectomy dead end also prevent the infection spreading to other parts of the intestine. So is there no other way to cope with appendicitis? Recent research from the United States has the answer.

Dr. Peter Minneci of Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio said that in fact, the case of acute appendicitis without complication does not require surgical removal of the appendix, but only requires antibiotics.

"In the group of patients without the complications of appendicitis we studied, non-operating actions alias only use antibiotics may be an alternative treatment of appendicitis in children," said Dr. Minneci as quoted by Reuters on Thursday (24/04/2014).

Dr. Minneci research conducted on 77 children and adolescents who were brought to the Emergency room at Nationwide Children's Hospital from October 2012 to October 2013. Entire sample has been diagnosed with appendicitis without complication. The definition of uncomplicated appendicitis is not too swollen appendix and no hard objects that went into it.

Of the 77 people, 30 of them chose treatment with antibiotics. They were given intravenous antibiotics are inserted into the body through an IV during the first 24 hours, followed by antibiotics for 10 days after returning home.

The result, of the 30 children who choose antibiotics rather than surgery, 93 percent or 27 samples claimed to feel better the next day. The pain in their stomach was gone faster than surgery. The rest of the 3 others did in fact require surgical removal of the appendix acts.
"The results of this research is new hope for the treatment of appendicitis in children. Study should be continued as an alternative to surgery," said Dr. Minneci again.

Currently Dr. Minneci and his colleagues are preparing further research on the same thing. The plan, they will conduct research on a larger scale and appendicitis are more severe.
